About This Game Pixel Shinobi is a game in the genre of stealth and platforming with elements of RPG, in which the player plays as the Shinobi (Ninja). The player can gain experience when killing enemies and eventually be able to unlock more advanced ninjutsu. Going through the levels the player will collect the various ingredients in which he can craft weapons: shurikens, poisons, elixirs, grenades, mines, as well as the main weapon the Katana, Ninjato and Kusarigama. At the end of each level the player gains experience for the past level completed, the game utilizes a stealth mechanic in which hide and seek can be your best weapon of defense and offense. Being able to hide in the shadows and deliver crucial and critical blows to an enemy can also give you experience in the end. After each level the player will be returned back to their home village in which they are able to purchase weapons, items and more advanced ninjutsu in the game.StoryIn 1560 A.D - Japan’s last Shogunate lost full control over the realm causing an eventual explosion into a massive civil war with other provinces of the once mighty empire. Anarchy reigned through the country as the different clans waged an all-out bloody war for supremacy. One clan "Steel Claw" in particular led by their Daimyo (Military Leader) Mamoru Imai, began seeking the knowledge of old forbidden practices and worshiping dark entities in order to try and place a curse upon his enemies. Mamoru was soon to be infected by the spirit of a vindictive and very malevolent Samurai warlord. Through this infection, "Steel Claw" began a campaign of total chaos and hatred spreading vile darkness through the lands, infecting other nations along with it. The demonically possessed Daimyo allies himself with nine other powerful demons and forges a massive army born from hatred and fueled by blood. No one army can withstand him. All hope is on the detachment of the shinobi clan "Black Lotus", operations of sabotage only can weaken the power of Mamoru. Pixel Shinobi is a solid platformer. It's hard and you'll die a lot, but it never feels cheap and it's consistently entertaining.The stealth mechanics are simple enough, and stealthy assassinations require some exact timing to pull off—exactly as it should be—which makes it feel extra rewarding when you slaughter everything without being seen. Tight controls and challenging AI make for excellent fights when you are seen, even against fairly basic enemies, and the bosses I've fought so far are tough and memorable. Gameplay is a clear 10/10. My complaints are minor, mostly related to translations so laughably poor it almost seems intentional. I would like to see labels and tooltips for crafting and inventory management, as well, because you can't tell what the hell anything does until you actually use it.Overall, this is a must-own for people who love ninja games, and I highly recommend it for everyone else. I bought it on sale and it feels like a bargain, and it's still in Early Access.. If you love ninjas this is a MUST BUY.This game is challenging, fun and rewarding!#CHALLENGING:-This is a challenging game, prepare to die a lot. -There are some checkpoints but quite far in between, however never too far. -The health items are extremly rare (I only found 1 item)-The levels are well made and the enemies are tough to beat, some enemies are really good fighters (especially the spearmen),so you better resort to stealth kill them, if you can. -The game has tight controls, when you get used to them. #FUN:In this game you will find a lot of hidden stuff: -Rewarding treasures, -Secrets paths-traps, -keys, -jokes and even a crazy Iron Maiden-loving shamisen guy.#MORE FUN:-Your main character looks like Bruce Lee.-You can perform seppuku, (yes... they are aware ninjas didn't perform seppuku) but still. :)-Challenging bosses and interesting game mechanics.#REWARDING:-The better you play the more experience and money is rewarded to you. -You can level up, then choose to unlock lots of different ninjaskills, even improve your crafting skills, -You can also buy/earn new recipes for weapon, shuriken, bombs, blinding, caltrops etc, maybe over 30+ recipes already?! CURRENT CONS:-The game has a bit bad english translation, but understandable for the most part. The most misleading thing for me was the description regarding how to do the stealh kill. When it says "0_Block" they mean your block/guard-buttom.-Some of the optional mission objectives are a bit too hard, I think.-The bowmen are a bit too challenging, they really have an amazing aim. I mean can't they also miss their arrows sometime? Like when you haven't practiced your shuriken skills, your shuriken will miss the target sometimes (just go dead past the enemy guards). You start with 68% hit-rate or so... can't those bowmen be nerfed to at least 70% hit-rate, because they have some daamn accurate arrows! :). For an alpha release, this is a pretty well-rounded stealth/action game. Writing this on 4/25/2018.English is not the native language and could use some work, but is understandable.Stealth mechanics are solid, and include FOV (including obstructions), light level, and noise.Story is solid, currently in-dev part is a cliffhanger lol...I want to know the continuation!The areas where this game really stands out among similar titles, however, are the crafting and leveling systems. Mark of the Ninja and Aragami both have leveling systems if I remember right, but Pixel Shinobi is the only stealth game I can remember playing with a decent (and meaningful) crafting system.Lots of things are incomplete, as this is a legitimate in-dev game right now, but even as it stands now, it is worth playing (and supporting).Some other steam games that you may enjoy:Mark of the NinjaAragamiGunpointDeadboltRonin (not always a stealth game, but certainly can be, and ninja nonetheless). You know how that old saying goes: "Slide like butter, sting like farm equipment."It's got some pretty loose controls, but I imagine once you get used to them they'd be pretty good. The dev is still active and the recent update allows you to play to the end and adds 6 bosses. I love it. I'm really looking forward to it being finished. A game worth supporting..
